Big as a House

I haven't had time to blog much in the last month or so. There have been some pretty big things on my plate recently. Big BIG things, as 'big as a house' sort of things.

I started a photography course at ACP in Paddington and it's been hard work adjusting to getting home at 1am the night before, getting up at 6am, dragging my butt out of the house in a zombie-like daze, napping on the train during peak hour without drooling on the unfortunate person sitting next to me, working from 8:30am - 5pm, grabbing a quick bite to eat before rambling down Crown then up Oxford to Paddo, sitting in a studio/classroom from 6:30pm - 9:30pm, walking all the way back down Oxford to Central Station, jumping on the 10:15 train to Wenty and getting home at 11:30pm. Phew! It's only one day a week mind you, but it's bloody hard work.

Also with assistance from my Mum and Dad, I've bought my first house and finally gotten all the initial paperwork out of the way. Exciting.

Jamie Oliver came in for dinner with a posse of 30 after only 3 hours of notice before the start of service on Sunday. It seemed to be a big chef night. Brent Savage from Bentley, Mark Best from Marque next door, Tetsuya (he needs only one name like Madonna) and Ben O'Donoghue came in, though the best was left to very last - Thomasina Miers of Wahaca, London and 'Wild Gourmets'!!! Oh and tomorrow I get to accompany my boss to the set of MasterChef and hang out for the day! Double exciting!

This is a shot I submitted as homework for class. My teacher thought it would be fun for me to do a little food photography since it's my main interest but I didn't have time, had to work 6 days straight and really just couldn't be stuffed cooking anything. We had some freshly podded peas sitting in the freezer compartment so I poured a little water in with them, froze it, then bashed it like a crazy woman with the back of a spoon until it came apart in little chunks and threw that on a plate with a fine dining setup. My teacher loved it, said it poked fun at commercial food photography. Anyway, for the record, that's butterscotch schnapps swimming in the wine glass, a white chef necktie masquerading as a napkin and a whiteboard 'table'.

  2. Haha, this is a funny one! Apart from the inviting petits pois surgelés (doesn't everything sound better in French?), I like the napkin and wine in the background :D
